With entries now closed, the seed draw shows many familiar names set to compete on top of a broad international field of competitors. Top-rated international visitor among the men’s are Joshua Burke, 22 (BBD) and Rafael Pereira, 29 (VNZ). Other top rank international competitors are, Jeison Torres 31 (CRI), Simon Salazar, 27 (COL), Daniel Olmos, 30 (COL), Angelo Bonomelli, 28 (ITA), Jose Lopez, 20 (VNZ) Magnum Martínez, 45 (VNZ). Among the women’s international visitors are Yulissa Matamorros, 18, (CRI), Ornella Pellizzari, 32, (ARG), Dominic Barona, 28 (ECU), Anali Gómez, 34 (PER), Kayla Durden, 26 (US), Molly Kirk, 19 (US), Emili Gussoni, 19 (ITA), Lily Pierce, 18 (GER), Jazzmin Bokola, (HWI), Autumn Hays, 20 (US), Brooke Young, 18 (US).

The current forecast for the 35th Edition Corona Pro this weekend shows on tap for Middles a 4' to 7' swell with light offshore southeasterly winds. The contest will decide the 2018 – 2019 Corona Pro Circuit Champ and will reward competitors with over $45,000 total prize purse for the Men's and Women’s divisions on an equal gender paid format.

The 35th Edition and event number three of the Corona Pro Surf Circuit 2018 – 2019 will crown the Men’s and Women’s tour Champ, and will grant a purse of over $45,000 in Prize Money for the men and the women’s on an equal gender pay format. The event will be held on October 11 - 13, 2019 at the iconic Middles Beach in the town of Isabela Puerto Rico. The event is sanctioned by the APSPR (Asociación Profesional Surfing Puerto Rico).

With over $45,500 purse prize, the finalists of each division will be rewarded with a $10,000 first place prize, $4,500 for 2nd places and $2,000 for 3rd places.

 The Corona Pro 34 Edition finished and crowned champions in 2’ - 4’ surf. The surfers started the morning off in clean fun surf. The champions, Chelsea Roett (BBD) and Rafael Pereira (VNZ), were able to prove themselves in varying waves and wind conditions.

Pereira channeled his stand-out performance on day one into a $10,000 champion check on the final day. He stayed consistent catching rights and lefts annihilating them with sharp pocket surfing and innovative progresive maneuvers. The final showdown was between Brian Toth and Rafael Pereira. Both surfers opened the heat up with good waves but Pereira was able to score a 9.27 on his 7th wave of the heat and a 8.87 on his last run to hold the win with a 18.78, the highest wave and heat score of the event letting Toth on a combo situation who also posted multiple good by putting his power surfing on display. Other top performances of day were semi finalists Logan Hayes (US) and Jose Lopez (VNZ). Hayes and Lopez entertained the crowd with innovative progresive maneuvers and long combinations. Both were able to use his speed to make long sections where other surfers were getting caught behind.

Middles Beach, Isabela, Puerto Rico (Sunday, October 14, 2018) – The Corona Pro 33rd Edition finished and crowned champions today in 3-5 foot surf. The surfers started the morning off in clean surf with light offshore conditions, as forecasted by midday SSE winds began to show and stayed for the rest of the day providing competitors with ripable waves perfect for innovative high performance surfing. The champions, Joshua Burke (BRB) and Tiarah Blanco (PR), were able to outstand and find the way to victory on beautifull waves in front of a large crowd of fans.

Both surfers opened the heat up with good waves but Joshua was able to hold the win with the highest heat score of the day, a 18.20. Pereira also posted multiple goods by putting his power surfing and air game on display with the 2nd highest heat score, a 18.00. Other top performances of day were semi finalists Brian Toth (PR) and Gabriel Escudero (PR). The highest men’s wave and heat score total was awarded to Burke with a 9.53 and a 18.20. Escudero and Toth entertained the large crowd with a variarity combination of powerfull and innovative maneuvers. Both were able to use his speed to make long sections where other surfers were getting caught behind.

The iconic reef at Middles beach on the north west coast of the island will see intense competition again next month when the top surfers from the Caribbean gather on October 12 –14, 2018.

Middles holds an historic place in surfing history, as it was the site of the 2010 former ASP World Tour, now the WSL, when Kelly Slater surfed to win his 10th World Title and Stephanie Gilmore won her 4th World Title. But this year, something unprecedented is happening at the iconic surf break, it will be the first event ever in Puerto Rico to grant equal gender pay and largest purse prize to be awarded in parity among top 16 of the Men’s and Women’s field.
