The Corona Pro 34 Edition finished and crowned champions in 2’ - 4’ surf. The surfers started the morning off in clean fun surf. The champions, Chelsea Roett (BBD) and Rafael Pereira (VNZ), were able to prove themselves in varying waves and wind conditions.
Pereira channeled his stand-out performance on day one into a $10,000 champion check on the final day. He stayed consistent catching rights and lefts annihilating them with sharp pocket surfing and innovative progresive maneuvers. The final showdown was between Brian Toth and Rafael Pereira. Both surfers opened the heat up with good waves but Pereira was able to score a 9.27 on his 7th wave of the heat and a 8.87 on his last run to hold the win with a 18.78, the highest wave and heat score of the event letting Toth on a combo situation who also posted multiple good by putting his power surfing on display. Other top performances of day were semi finalists Logan Hayes (US) and Jose Lopez (VNZ). Hayes and Lopez entertained the crowd with innovative progresive maneuvers and long combinations. Both were able to use his speed to make long sections where other surfers were getting caught behind.
On women’s division Chelsea Roett (BBD) came out with the victory with an 8 points ride on her 2nd wave and a 3.8 on her last run for a 11.8 heat total over Alexis Engstrom 9.5 heat total. Roett was able to find herself on the better waves and utilize her priority toward a win over reigning champ Alexis Engstrom (PR) and took home the $10,000 first prize check. Although she came up short in the final, Engstrom was able to put up a great performance during the whole event. Other tops on the women’s side were semi-finalists Brooke Young (US) and María Kuzmovich (PR). Both had a notable performance during the whole event.
